Namaqualand,2025

Everard Read London presents Namaqualand, a new body of work by Cape Town-based artist Arabella Caccia.

Drawing on the luminous natural light of southern Africa and the wild places she explores, Caccia’s work reflects a deep connection to nature’s beauty and transience. Inspired by the seasonal transformation of the Namaqualand desert - from barren expanse to a spectacular wildflower display - this collection captures the interplay of resilience and fragility, light and shadow, vastness and intimacy. Using an ‘alphabet’ of glyphs developed from her study of nature, she works in oil, embroidery, and mixed media to create pieces rooted in process, meditation, and honesty. Through these works, Caccia invites viewers to share her sense of playful curiosity and profound appreciation for the natural world.

To Lake Tanganyika and Back, 2024

Everard Read Franschhoek presents To Lake Tanganyika and Back.

"In early July 2023 Johann (my husband) and I embarked on a road trip across Southern Africa with a bakkie and a roof top tent, it took us through sandstorms in Namibia into the Okavango Delta in Botswana, past the Chilojo cliffs in Gonarezhou in Zimbabwe through Zambia with all her beautiful plains and up to Ndole Bay on Lake Tanganyika. The return journey took us down the shores of Lake Malawi and back home through Mozambique. I sketched, photographed, and recorded the extraordinary landscapes that continued to astound us as we made our journey. To Lake Tanganyika and Back showcased this journey in sculpture, embroideries and works on paper."
